Long term treatment options

If you have epilepsy that is difficult to control with medication, there may be other options available to you:

Below are some options you may wish to discuss with your clinician if your epilepsy is difficult to control:

Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS)
A medical device similar to a pacemaker which sense messages to the brain via the vagal nerver to help decrease seizures and their severity.

Ketogenic Diet
A medical diet involving high-fat, low-card foods which may help control seizures for some people.

Epilepsy Sugery

Some people with epilepsy may be offered epilepsit braing surgery to help control their seizures. There are lots of different types of surgery and your clinician can discuss this with you if it is an option.
