Rachel’s story

By her Mam Gill;

Rachel developed epilepsy when she was eleven years old but never allowed her epilepsy to stop her living life to the full.

Originally from Caernarfon, Rachel moved in 2006 to Colchester to be nearer her sister Debbie.  The girls were very close.  There she met her partner and they set up a home together.

Rachel’s biggest goals in her life were to become a teacher and a mother.  She was the most caring of my four children and as such worked with people with mental health difficulties.  We knew she would be a great mother and teacher.

In January 2009 Rachel gave birth to a precious and much wanted baby boy, they named him Harvey. For the next eight and a half months Rachel devoted her life to Harvey and her partner.

Rachel was accepted onto an access course at her local college and was hoping to begin the studying in January 2010. It would be her first step towards training to become a teacher.

Rachel breastfed Harvey until the day she died from Sudden Unexpected Death Epilepsy at her home in Colchester aged 22.

I cry everyday for Rachel. I can’t believe I have gone seven months without speaking to her. I am sharing her story with you because I know that everybody who reads this will know where I am right now.

The support I have had from Epilepsy Bereaved has been amazing and I am determined to keep Rachel’s memory alive by raising awareness.
