Tributes to Jane

Jane with her OBE following the ceremony with Her Majesty The Queen

Jane Hanna, Director of Epilepsy Bereaved was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for her services to bereaved families.

Jane collected her OBE from Her Majesty The Queen at a ceremony in Windsor Castle on Tuesday 16th November 2010.

Following the ceremony Jane said;

“I would like to dedicate the OBE and my very special day to all the bereaved families who have made the achievements of Epilepsy Bereaved possible.   This award reflects on many courageous people and also on the memory of all the very special people who have died from epilepsy.

 It was wonderful to have a conversation with the Queen about SUDEP. My family told me that she spoke with me for some time. She asked me about the number of deaths and was genuinely interested.  I reflected that as Prince John died of SUDEP in 1919 that the recognition of SUDEP through this honour was indeed a very special moment.

 My little girl who is three was too young to be allowed in to the ceremony, but she told her nursery teacher today that mummy had got a golden star for helping people”.
