“We were told by the medical profession that you could not die from a seizure – only that you could die as a result of a seizure e.g. drowning
Apart from a convulsive seizure in 2006, my husband David had been largely seizure free for 13 years and only experiencing the odd “funny five minutes” which he would quickly recover from.”
David’s last seizure occurred on 31st March 08 (Good Friday). Lorna said; “I watched my husband go into his attack, administered the medication as directed, phoned for the ambulance, all the time thinking ‘no need to panic he’ll come round in hospital and will want to know all the details’. His seizure took it’s normal course, there were no signs to alert me that things were different this time. However, the lady dealing with my emergency call asked if he was breathing. I couldn’t tell, his breathing generally was affected during an attack. She talked me through CPR and all the time, whilst I was working on my husband to try and keep him alive, I’m thinking ‘why am I doing this he’ll come round in a minute’?
“The paramedics, doctors, nurses all fought as hard as they could to revive David but this time he didn’t come round. It wasn’t a case of status epilepticus (prolonged fitting) he simply died of a seizure.”
