Information on our SUDEP and Bereavement support service.
Bereavement (especially after a sudden and unexpected death) is a highly individual experience. It is important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. People grieve in different ways. There is no set pattern to grief.
We offer :
- Someone to listen
- A confidential service
- Opportunities to speak with someone who has personal experience of an epilepsy death
- Information about epilepsy deaths and SUDEP
- Meetings with other families bereaved through epilepsy
- A regular magazine
If you are in the UK or Ireland; we can contact you by email or telephone. Initial contact is with the family support manager who will listen and assist you with what you may want from the charity.
If you want to talk to someone about what has happened to you, please ring 01235 772852 and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Alternatively, e mail us at contact@epilepsybereaved.org.uk
If you are outside the UK we can provide email contact and can provide you with hard copy publications not available on this website.
The value of a family support volunteer
“You and my volunteer have been my inspiration and I cannot thank you enough for all your contact and help” A young wife who had lost her partner
“I realise that you know exactly how we feel” A family on the loss of their daughter
“I felt you were a friend, not a stranger in another town or city” A father who contacted Family Support after the death of his son
It may help to know that you are not alone. Family Support volunteers are people within the charity who have experience of bereavement through epilepsy themselves, give their time willingly and freely and have been trained in this role. The volunteer will try to help by listening and assisting you with what you may want from the charity. Contact can be made by email or by phone and after the initial contact, future contacts are agreed between you and the volunteer.
Membership
To enable us to keep you up-dated with our work, invite you to our meetings and support you to become involved with our campaigns, we would be happy to add your details to our database.
Meetings in the UK.
The charity has regular meetings in the UK for people bereaved through epilepsy. These provide an opportunity for everyone, including new members, to meet and talk to each other in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Meetings are also an opportunity to be brought up to date with relevant information and to take part, if wished, in discussions about the charity. As we are a very small national charity we are only able to organise national or regional meetings and do not have the resources at this point for regular local meetings.
